  • Facts about drinking and driving:

In order to drive safely, one must maintain attentiveness, make quick decisions based on ever-changing information from the surrounding environment, and execute specific, sometimes difficult maneuvers based on these inputs. When a driver consumes alcohol, he impairs a wide range of skills absolutely necessary for carrying out these maneuvers. One of the most important variables related to crashing risk, according to recent research is, youthful young people. Young drivers are known to be inexperienced and careless in driving. Clearly when alcohol is added to the equation, the effects are only bound to get worse. Young people have crash rates that are substantially higher than those of other groups, especially at low and moderate Blood Alcohol Concentration Levels (BACs).

The only scientific way to determine whether a driver is under the influence is through blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Your BAC can be tested with a simple Breathalyzer test.

In New Jersey, a person with a BAC of 0.08% or greater who operates a motor vehicle or a boat is considered to be driving under the influence (DUI).
